But, these home safety tips are so sneaky we had to scour the web just to find them. Because when it comes to breaking into your home, burglars know all the tricks. So, why shouldn’t you know some home safety tips and tricks?
Painful Plants
We’ve talked about using landscaping as a way to deter burglars by blocking their view into your home, but we bet you never thought of using your beautiful yard decor as a painful burglar deterrent. By planting thorny plants, such as rose bushes, underneath ground floor windows, burglars will think twice about stepping up to an entrance blocked by feisty fauna.
Fake Out
Security Systems are expensive, we get it. So, if you can’t afford a security system to protect your home, at least look like you can. Purchase a decal and hang it in a front window or door. Many won’t be fooled, but some might.
Hide Valuables in Plain Sight
Burglars know where to look for your jewelry, cash, and valuables. The toilet tank, freezer, and underwear drawer are no longer safe. It’s time to get a little more creative with your hiding spots, starting with recycling. Take those shampoo bottles or lotion jugs you’re about to throw away, give them a good rinse, and stuff your valuables in there. Or, if that’s too complicated, simply change drawers. Try your kid’s underwear drawer instead of your own or, ladies, save a box of your feminine products. When burglars are in a hurry, they can’t check every single space in your home. If you get creative, they’ll have a much harder time.
Good Deeds Can Be a Bad Idea
While it may feel like the nice thing to do to let the guys working on your yard, your house or in the neighborhood come in to use the bathroom, they may be looking for more than a restroom. Often, this is a good opportunity to unlatch a window or check for easy entrances. So, if you do play the good samaritan, just be aware and keep and check your windows after.
